How to cheer up a 2nd grader that will repeat 2nd position?

maybe she have a learning dissability
just comfort her, say everything is going to be ok, and this year conceivably u could help her with her homework
Tell her if she works hard enough she will be able to skip a class and get back into her right one. This of course is true if she works easier said than done enough.
