Do you expect barbie sets a desperate example for girls?
The barbie movies are fine, but some of the dolls clothes are a little too sexy... The other day I saw a barbie dressed in black fishnet stockings, a mini skirt and elevated heels for sale in a toy store. Kids nowadays are exposed to lots of things approaching that but... Barbie is just such an icon! When I was little, I really looked-for to be barbie. I wanted all of her clothes, and her pets, and I even wanted my boyfriend to look of late like Ken. Thankfully I grew out of that. But my point with that is, if I required to be barbie when I was little, there must be some other little girls out there who do too. What do you mull over?
I regard they are a bad influence. They teach girls that you need to be skinny, own big boobs, and dress skimpy. Girls do not need that image in their cranium of what they need to look like when they get elder.
Frankly, I always thought Bratz dolls were a million times worse as a bad example for girls than Barbies. I thought Bratz dolls really sleazy looking and thought they were misnamed - that they should have been call Slutz.
I agree with you however, that some of the Barbie tie-ins (like the Top Model Barbie that you mention that has the fishnet stockings and mini skirt) are rather rude for young girls. I am hoping that those Barbies are designed with adult Barbie collectors contained by mind (and not 8 year old girls).
I think parents worry something like this a whole lot more than the girls do. They recognize she is a doll and won't look "real".
they might look like it to you (as you are elder and think different then little girls) but to a little girl its innocent little girl fun to for a while girl she could be a rock star or something else (what ever the little girl wants her to be) I would rather have my kid play next to a barbie doll then a bratz doll! (if i had a kid)

I do remember my friends playing barbies and ..they were other making the dolls do sexual things..So yeah they are sexualizing kids at a young age

Answers: I agree. I feel that sex has to sell so much that they start dealing it out to the youngest of ages. I tight-fisted barbie is a classic icon for young girls they see barbie as an image of them when they grow up. Sad article is as they grow up they realize each person is different and normally women do not dress similar to hookers. I mean when I was young barbie be the nice, pretty, independent women who could do any job and have a great boyfriend. Now shes all in the region of dressing sexy and being an icon of pristine dependence on others. Times have really changed, it is heart-rending.
