Can someone help me with this question concerning my 7 yr outmoded son? I don't know what to do...?
Okay, as I take a deep breath. About 3 months ago my son was going through some chilling changes, he went from being a particularly happy laughing little boy to a quiet, crying, acting like a 4 yr behind the times, in another world so I decided to call and enjoy him tested and they did a EEG and MRI on him and it came back normal which I'm glad and glowing about but then at the end of June he be getting worse and worse so I took him to the children's hospital and they admit him into a great psy ward for children and he was there for 2 weeks, they put him on this one meds after they did adjectives these thousand and one test on him and the meds seems to work but this week its been hell. I don't even own a diagnose yet on him, the psy. I went to see yesterday was useless, seem like she wanted us out of there asap. I call my insurance company and got some people who I thought would help us and they are not taking no topical patients, my pedestrian cant seem to help me. I feel as though not a soul cares or wants to help my son. Does anyone know what I can do or phone call. I want my son to get help soon so he can have a suitable life. He might have a mild case of Autism. I lovvvvvvvvvve my newborn and I want someone to help him. I know this was long and I'm sorry. I just hope someone can pass me some kind of lead. Thank you so much...:o)
If you think your child is autistic you should definitely talk to his lecturer and get him evaulated by the school with an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) This can sympathetic you up to a lot of free resources through the state and can get him extra help next to school if he needs it. This is probably one of the best resources you can utilize. They can also help if it is a psychiatric disorder. Maybe find a support group online?
From the little information here, it does not sound approaching typical autism. Of course, there is probably a lot that you haven't said that leads you to this conclusion. In any crust, he needs to get a second opinion from a specialist. If he have already seen a neurologist, then he should be seen by a child psychologist. You want to have a diagnosis to get special services at school and, depending where on earth you live, from the state.
Answers: You can contact your local easter seals, if you muse he has a mild case of autism, they can set you up to get him evaluated at little to no cost provided they are excepting current people.
A person can be evaluated for autism by a developmental pediatrician; a neurologist; a psychologist; or a psychiatrist. The type of evaluation given will depend on who they see, there's a variety of evaluations that can be done but regardless of what evaluation is used here is certain criteria that has to be met in establish to be diagnosed with autism. An accurate diagnosis should be based on observation of the individual's communication, behavior, and developmental level. You may need various medical tests to rule out or identify other possible cause of the symptoms being exhibited since many of the behaviors associated with autism are shared by other disorders. Parent/teacher input are especially important components of making an accurate diagnosis as well.
I would contact the school he is enrol in, you can request that he be evaluated for a learning disability such as autism at no charge. The evaluation usually consists of a speech therapist, work therapist and a pyschologist. The evaluation must assess him in all areas related to his suspected disability and must include any information provided by you just about the suspected disability. If the parents disagree with the evaluation, they have the right to take their child for an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE). They can ask that the college system pay for this IEE. Granted an evalaution outside of the school is much more detailed, they look at more than just the pedagogic aspect (eg it took 1 month for my son to be evaluated for autism outside of the school - it took 3 hrs for the school evaluation) of it but it can help you receive going in the right direction while you are waiting for him to be evaluated outside of the school. If they find that he does have a research disability and depending on the severity of it he can receive related services at the school which can include any of the following: audiology services, counseling services , early permit and assessment of disabilities in children, medical services, occupational therapy, situation and mobility services, parent counseling and training, physical therapy, psychological services, recreation, rehabilitation counseling services, school condition services, social work services in schools, speech-language pathology services, and transportation. It will also allow him to receive any supplements, accommodations, etc he may requirement. It doesn't mean he'll be in special ed either, by canon they must try to educate children with disabilities with children who do not enjoy disabilities, which is known as least restrictive enviroment.
