I started giving rice cerelac to my kid when he was 4 months old, as suggested by my pediatrician. According to her kids who don't drink enough milk can be given awfully thin cerelac twice a day.

Answers: I started my son at 12 weeks. He loved it, wolfed it down, slept better, everything.
10 months later we discovered he has permanent digestion problems as a result.
It is NOT SAFE past 6 months, and should only be done as an absolute last resort if it's medically unsafe to maintain them on just milk. Some people here started earlier and get lucky - well good for them. I walked across the road once in need looking and I wasn't hit by a car - does that make it a safe piece to do? Of course not.
Doctors and health visitors don't advise waiting until 6 months because they feel it's funny. They do so because of kids like my son, who can be silently damaged by starting solids earlier than 6 months beside no symptoms at the time AT ALL. And it could be much worse. Some kids who are given solids too early get diabetes (a permanent, incurable condition) or severe, life-threatening allergies. Again, you won't know if your child is one of the ones it will affect until it is far too slow.
I started to introduce rice cereal at 4 months with my doctor's ok.
