Pump-and-dump... how much should I throw away?
I'm working on increasing my milk production while breast feeding so that I can store up some extra milk and go out for a little mom-celebration while grandma babysits for me... I know that if I'm drinking alcohol I enjoy to pump the milk that's produced with alcohol in it but I don't know how much I have to throw away.
I don't want my little one to get any of the alcohol through my milk so I'll be storing up a good days worth or more before I plan to budge out. How long after drinking does the alcohol stay in the breast milk? And how much milk should I plan to pump and toss out? Should I plan to store up like 24 hours worth of feedings and pump-and-dump until that supply runs out? Or do I have to store more than that??
Ummm, i wouldn't drink at adjectives. My baby would be more important than a mommy celebration!

Talk to your OB because I'm pretty sure that you don't actually have to pump & dump, because the alcohol will work its way out of your system after a few hours. I'm sure the Dr's bureau would have a much better explanation than that, so just call them. You're for sure not the first new mommy who's excited for a drink.
Answers: Here's the operate. From everything I read the level of booze in breast milk is equivalent to the blood alcohol level at the time of feed. So you don't have to pump and dump afterward. Just don't go on a Nick Nolte style binge and you should be good for the light of day after.

i would suggest you call your doctor or a pediatrician and not nick the advice of someone online with no credentials, especially when it can effect your babies health.
just keep surrounded by mind that if you have 1 drink, it stays in the milk for 2 hours, 2 drinks, 4 hours, etc, etc... so in demand to get rid of all the alcohol you'd have to pump every 2 hours per drink to create sure it's alcohol free, or at least that's what i've been told
