Most likely by the time the kid is 12 he will know what a condom is.
Just as if you were telling anyone else. Its for protection against pregnancy, and disease, and explain how it works(the semen get trapped in the end, therefore no fluids are exchanged) breakage, etc... A 12 year weak is certainly old enough to infer, and unfortunately some are actually using them at that age, so dont leave anything out, and create it clear that you are available for any questions, no matter how embarrassing they believe they might be.youd rather your kid learn the proper things from you, than from their friends or the internet.

well... my kids are toddler still but I enjoy thought about this, if I wanted to explain a condom I would probably buy one and show it to them so they knew what it looked approaching etc...
they probably already know, but like frequent young ones, have a lot of misconceptions roughly speaking sex. be truthful.
a condom is a protective piece of latex that goes over a man's penis.
it stops semen from going into the woman so she doesn't get pregnant. it also stop fluids from being exchanged to protect ethnic group from getting sexual diseases.
maybe you could get one and put it on a cucumber. make sure you consent to them ask lots of questions. make sure they know that they can ask you at any time they need. if they are embarassed to ask clearly get a notebook. have them write their questions down and you write the answers support.
while you are explaining the technical side make sure you explain the emotional side too. commonly between 2 people who care for eachother though obviously not other.
i learned what a condom was when i was 9. my brother give me one and told me it was a balloon. i tried to blow it up and said it tasted funny. when i showed my mom my balloon (i was determined to blow that item up!) she was so pissed my brother was grounded for a week.
