Scheduled c-section?
Hey all, I just have a press.I could have asked my doctor at my last visit it a short time ago escaped my mind at the time. So I dont go to the doctors for another month. I was just curious as to when you are planned for your c-section. I know it varies on doctors or if your high risk and such. Im not high risk. Is it usually a week in the past the due date because they dont want to risk you going into labor early? Thanks for any info!
Why are you have a c-section? That can change the scheduling. If it's because of a prior c-section, you'll probably go at 39 weeks. If it's because of placenta previa or another medical condition, you may go sooner.
My doctor told me that with his patients who need c-sections (myself being one of them) he in general schedules them about a week before their due date. Not really sure why--maybe because there's usually a reason behind needing a c-section (large child, medical conditions with the mother/baby, etc.), and he's trying to avoid something bad happening if labor starts on its own? I really don't know!
Answers: If you are an average risk, typically, they schedule 3 weeks in credit for delivery at 39 weeks. Some as early as 38. If you are at risk for some reason (vertical incision especially), you deliver at 38 weeks.
The concern for going into labor precipitate is negligible unless you had something OTHER THAN the usual low, horizontal incision or had placenta previa or persuaded other conditions. For instance, women who have had a vertical incision have a 4% karma of having a uterine rupture even without labor. That is why this group is ALWAYS delivered up to that time going into labor.
Since you added some important info, I will adjust my answer.
If you had one previously, then they will calendar it as close to your due date as possible.
