Adopting special wishes children?
I know the adoption process is generally longwinded and very thorough and surrounded by legalities and things, but I am just curious is it even harder to adopt a special requirements child (say down syndrome or autistic or something)? or is it about the same process really?
It is the same process but you would receive placement of a child quicker if you want a special needs child, a sibling group, or a biracial child.
Adopting special needs kids is actually easier and faster, since most people singular want healthy infants. You should look into Hong Kong. They do only downs adoptions and they are super cheap (around $1500 as defiant $20K in other countries). I think it's great that you're willing to consider this. It's all impossible to tell apart process - whether you adopt a boy / girl / special needs / sibling group etc. It takes a special kind of creature to adopt a special needs child. Good luck
You have to be capable of handle special needs. Autism children have alot of attention they will obligation. Some times there so much work you have to quit your job. I am describing you this, my step mother in law did this just next to foster care. Maybe do foster care first and see if you want to adopt.
When we adopted our special requests daughter from China there were actually more requirements involved.
Our agency looked-for to make sure we were ready and could feel a child with her needs.
It cost the same. You don't grasp a discount cause the child is special needs.
It should be the same process, though they will be looking for some different criteria, based on the childs desires so your home does need to be suitable for a "special needs" child.
I believe that it would be the same process. Good luck!
I am sure it should be the same process... Awwwww I think specifically very sweet that u want to adopt a special needs child... Thats awesome... I look up to people similar to that! Good Job! (^_^)
Answers: Oddly enough (at most minuscule in my area), it is actually easier. Those children are difficult to place permanently because so few family are willing to take them and so your wait-time for placement is often shorter. Also, plentiful times, parental rights issues have already been handled because the parent(s) give the child up because of the health/mental issues, or they caused the problem and rights were terminated quickly because of the severity of assault. Either way, the legal side of the adoption process is no picnic. Both of my daughters are considered "special needs" (though not so severe as the problems you mentioned) and from placement to finalization their adoptions took 15 months and 17 months respectively.
