Adopting my little sister?

In 2004 my mother died, and my sister was living with her father. However, a year later he lost custody of her because he be dealing drugs. My maternal grandmother was supposed to get custody of her, but she granted that she was to sick. When I finally turned 18 I called around looking up for information, however they told me I was to childlike to adopt her anyways. Now I am 21 turning 22 and I want my sister back. I just dont know how to go give or take a few it and how much it will cost. Could someone please give me some information on how to do things and how much this will cost. I believe she is in foster care if that help.

Good for you being so loyal to your sister. If she is in foster care and not adopt you should be able to gain custody of her. Call your local children and families services office and explain the situation, they should be capable of give you the number of your sisters social worker. If you are serious about obtaining guardianship of her you enjoy to make sure you can, have and show proof of a steady source of income, have a not dangerous and stable environment for her and be ready to be a guardian. I'm not sure where you live so cost may vary, however if she is surrounded by foster care it should be free or relatively inexpensive. Best of luck.
Answers:    Depends on your state, your cost. In SC, state based adoptions only cost the price of the attorney and SC will earnings up to $1500 per adoption, so most attorneys only charge $1499, but worse case scenario, it might be $2500.

At 18, you are old satisfactory to adopt, so thats not a reason for denial. But, you will have to show that you can financially afford to provide for your sister and this affordability cant be state funds, like medicaid or welfare. If you can afford to be your sisters parent you will plainly be looked to as a candidate. Most states get money from the feds per placement and most states would prefer to place a child as to not pay foster parents, but they enjoy to follow guidelines before adoption can occur.

In SC you would have to leave behind a physical, cholesterol screen, financial analysis, home study, fire inspection, take a 14-hr course, and make sure pets be up to date on rabies shots. You also have to pass a criminal and sexual offense check. If all of those pass by, you can adopt.

Good luck.
Have you considered seeing if you can become her permanent legal guardian? Many relations have been given guardianship of siblings under similar circumstances and at younger ages than yours.
Contact the same agency back again. Hopefully you hold a job and can support her. If she has been adopt then that is final and you will NOT get her vertebrae. You should have been getting sib visits during these former yrs and by the way it sounds you haven't had any contact. That is very melancholic if that is what has happened---yet you didn't say. In my states sibs hold weekly or monthly visits.
Go and talk to your local Social Services and see if they can help you.
