Sponsor a animal kids have parents
Save the Children and other agencies that help children surrounded by foreign countries do not have the facilities to store & distribute contributions such as you suggest. Sponsors may send something to the child they sponsor.
There are children surrounded by the US, particularly in Appalachia, that are in desperate necessitate. Also, shelters for abused spouses and children need donations -- many of these battered women escaped in the middle of the hours of darkness with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the pajamas on their kids. Consider contributing to an American child (if you're American; otherwise, to the poor right surrounded by your own country -- there are needs everywhere).
I agree with the Operation Christmas Child answer. Most churches do this now. We do it every year, and now my daughter have a pen pal in Ukraine as a result.
Some sponsoring programs will allow you to send gifts contained by addition to money or send gifts but not officially sponsor a child. You can probably pass the toys to foster children.
Answers: This is a program I'm considering participating in and seem to have pretty much what you're looking to do. It's NOT about adoption, but about providing a undisruptive, nutritious, wholesome, and wonderful learning experience. Continued contact is also strongly encouraged.

Operation Christmas Child is wonderful, but their pamphlet says they one and only accept new items.
at my friends church they did something similar to this, it was call operation christmas child. instead of sending money the church sent toys and clothing overseas to children. Also they sent things like toothbrushes and shoes. It was a great idea! Maybe you can find a group within your area that does this and you can pitch in!
Why overseas? why not one surrounded by this country.
