11yr behind the times niece facebook?
My 11yr old niece wants to get a facebook but i dont perceive thats age appropriate what do you guys suggest would be a better site for a girl her age that is more oh i dont know say parental controllable if thats a word lol. I myself am 18 and have other had a myspace but i have made more mistakes on there than what i would of made have somebody been watching out for me.
That's for her parents to decide, not you.
I definitely agree beside you. My sister Kylie is 12 and wants one but my parents have told her no numerous times. One of Kylie's friends has a facebook and I suggest it's inappropriate. This girl's mom is okay with her having a facebook and publicly displays she's (the mom) a admirer of "morning sex" and a sex related party business. Facebook is adult oriented (high academy and beyond).
If she gets a facebook she will add all the elder people she knows and the chances of her seeing something doomed to failure for her age is highly likely.
Facebook is made for high schools and above. Not elementary or middle arts school students. She shouldn't have any of that stuff.
That's so wonderful of you for watching out for her. Now a days I find kids are so free to do whatever they like. However, my niece get facebook when she was just 12 years old (1 year difference from yours). We other watch her page, see whose messaging her, see whose new to her friends list. We tip off her about adding people she doesnt know. ONLY relatives and friends. I know it seems sneaky. we even made a fake account and sent her a friend request. She sent a message support saying "who the heck are you, i dont even know you, sorry bye". so if you warn them and let them know theres pervs and associates on their. trust me! i think she'll get it.
Facebook is less undisruptive than MySpace FYI. Just make sure that she doesn't use her real name, doesn't post what town she lives within, makes it private (not really needed but makes it safer.), and make sure that she with the sole purpose accepts friend requests from people she knows. Oh and spawn sure that she is friends with you so that you can check up on her updates.
Facebook is quite stuid anyways. I just deleted it. Its full of a bunch of annoying associates, annoying applications ect. And it can cause alot of drama.
If she really wants to use facebook then consent to her. But make sure to educate her about the internet. Tell her not to confer to stangers, give out information, blah blah blah. Because sooner or later she will get it whether you similar to it or not. Better catch and eduate her before it happens. :)
Have a lovely daytime!
Answers: Nope, she shouldn't be allowed to have a Facebook, nor any other communication profile.
It's unsafe, and she is still at a tender, young age. She shouldn't be even allowed to use instant messanger.. I have a feeling that 12/13 is a more appropriate age.
She's 11 years old, and if she wants to do something online, show her t clubpenguin.com. She can play tons of fun games, but also chat with other users, similar to Facebook and other things.
I'm 13, 14 in a month, and my dad still isn't allowing me to get a Facebook.
She shouldn't have any of that at 11.
The internet should be for email, msn, and miniclip games at that age, not Myspace, Facebook, Bebo, etc.
=]
Get her on clubpenguin.com its wat my 11 year old sister goes on. its just penguins that can say aloud like hey and wats up and talk to other vertual penguins. you cant give and pesonal info on that site. so ya its pretty fon and sheltered. i know my sister and her friends are always on that site.
She shouldn't have anything. Not myspace, not youtube, not twitter, etc.
If she really wants to be accessible over the internet consequently she should get an email. That's it.
No to facebook.
Yes to e-mail, aim/msn, and kid-friendly games.
She's too young. I merely recently got one myself because I want to keep within touch with people from school. Before that, I didn't see the point. She requirements it because it would make her 'cool'.
well she is not allowed to own a facebook because you have to be in high academy.
idont really know anyothe sites sorry:)
just tolerate her get a facebook, and you could make her friend request you so you can see what she posts, that's what my friend did when she wanted a facebook, her mom in recent times made her friend request her. she's 12 by the way. btw, you are only 18 and not her mom, why are you the one deciding this?
Myspace is probably safer because you can use a screen name instead of your solid name. On Facebook you have to show your first and last heading. It also has the option to post your mobile number, address, home phone number, other email addresses, town, state and other information someone could smoothly use to find you. If she does get a social networking profile then bring in sure she does not add that information and does not add anyone she doesn't know personally. Even if a friend claims to know them. I know you asked for other sites similar to facebook but safer, but I really don't think any social networking site is "safer" than another. I think it is the folks you add and the information posted that makes it unsafe.
Who'd add/ accept requests from her?
She (and pretty much any other 5th grader) really have no business on Facebook.
Even MySpace (but kids manage to find their way on that for some reason)
But if you really want it for her...
Make the account for her
Know her password so you know what she posts
Make sure she asks previously sending a friend request to someone
Have access to her email so you know who sends a request.
