Do you suppose shows resembling Skins fashion some teenagers be aware of isolated and alone?
In Skins you see these hip little Indie Kid 16 year olds going out every night and getting drunk, taking drugs and having sex. When I was 16 I did none of this stuff and at 20 I still singular go out and get drunk at Uni on the weekends. I just mull over that if you watch this show and you're an unpopular teenager with not much of a social-life, than shows close to Skins, showing people you're age going out and partying whilst you just sit at home, is going to make you surface even more alone and even more isolated from your age group.
TV is not real. If you believe everything you see on tv, you aren't old enough to keep watch on it without adult supervision.
I'm a British teen, and yes I agree. Skins is a good programme, but it kind of makes me touch that I should be doing those things, and why am I not?
However I understand its all in the entitle of entertainment
I don't know what contry you're from, but in the uk where skins is set and where I'm from, the demeanour shown although greatly exagarated isn't that unusual. The majority of british teens drink and quite a lot, but not as many lug a lot of drugs. I know in america stuff like drugs are frowned apon deeply more than they are here in England. Also, everyone who watches skins knows it's a programme made for entertainment purposes and not many folks actually have lives like that, so no, I don't deliberate it would make people feel isolated as if they hold an ounce of common sense, they know it's all made up
It's a possibility but from my experience, teenagers don't feel alone because of box shows. I never seen Skins and I don't plan to. A bunch of teens drinking and partying doesn't interest me, and if I did, I'd be at the party, not watching it on television. Plus it reminds of how miserable my time is right now. Teenagers like what you described, especially the boys, are the ones that picked on me nearly everyday. Many teenagers feel alone because they don't enjoy the characteristics that require fitting in with other people. At my older school, guys that were shy, unattractive, and unpopular beside the girls didn't get any respect from girls and guys, but I still believe guys have it much easier. In a girl's view if she doesn't look attractive, she will acquire disrespected by other girls and guys on a worse scale, so they feel lonely and outcasted. I only touch outcasted and alone because I'm shy and I only had a few friendships throughout my life. I'm unlucky enought o enjoy many characteristics that would get me picked on. I had a best friend within 3rd grade, but she moved and I was alone ever since. To my surprise, we met up again in 8th status, when she later turned on me. I had a few "outcast" acquaintances in large school. We shared the same problems. People always pciked on us. I lost contact next to them because I dropped out of school, so safe to say, I'm alone because empire simply don't like me. As for Skins, even if I were a social person, I'd never attain drunk to have a good time. I don't need drugs resembling alcohol.
Answers: Yes, I think shows like that exaggerate "the teenage life" a great deal, and teens who aren't like that might worry because they are not participating in such endeavours.
I think "Skins" shows a very extreme way of natural life...it wasn't like that for me, or anybody I know (including in the UK)...maybe some aspects for some citizens (around 16 a fair few kids I knew drank at parties, for example, but no drugs or orgies), but I doubt everything altogether. I'm sure in that are some teens like that but they represent a small proportion of the population and/or are very good at hiding it lol.
So yes, I reflect on it can be harmful for teens because these shows send out the image that it's "typical teenage behaviour" which completely isn't true. Luckily I think most teens would realise this but some who are already confused about their place contained by the world, their social lives etc might be further hurt by this.
