Should marriage be only between a man and a woman?

No, marriage should be for two people who love each other, no matter their gender.

If God is all forgiving and loves everyone equally, how are they going against him? What the church says, maybe, but not God.

=]
No. As for why i don't think it's going against god's word, I'm an atheist, I don't believe there is a god's word for me to go against. Not allowing gay marriage is purely ignorance and prejudice. We have the freedom to make our own choices and people should not be allowed to stop people they don't even know from getting married simply because they are of the same gender. It's not as if gays who marry are in any way harming anyone else, they are just living their lives. If you don't like gay marriage, don't get married to someone of the same gender as you and keep out of other peoples personal lives. People don't like gay marriage simply because it's different, non-conventional, but that is not good justification for stopping people who love each other from getting married. As for the fact that the bible says marriage is between a man and a women, it also says that slavery is acceptable, that a man can mistreat his wife. The bible is from a time in the past. We are trying to move forward, to accept new and different ideas, not cling to some ideas that at the time were considered perfectly acceptable, but now are not necessarily so moral or just.
Love should be between two people in love, regardless of age or gender. It is something we should celebrate, not make people ashamed of.

What is the difference anyways? We do not choose who we fall for and shouldn't have the same oppurtunities even if we are the same genders.

Personally, I do not believe in God. So I would not consider him in why something is right or wrong.
NOOOOOO!!

this issue makes me angry!! lol

reasoning:
love is love. whether you "believe" people can be gay/lesbian or not, you cant deny that they feel love for each other. marriage is about a commitment to another person. love knows no gender. i find it ridiculous that people bring there personal beliefs into this. if your religion is against gay marriage, fine! thats your right to believe that! but how does the marriage of other people affect you? it doesnt matter if anyone think they are against the "word of God". that's what the separation of church and state is for. not everyone in America is a Christian, and even if something IS a Christian, and it is against their beliefs, there is no harm done to them for allowing other people in love to be married.
[[[end rant =) ]]] Source(s): straight 16 year old who believes in God, yet hates the ignorance and closemindedness of some "Christians"
No. I basically think, to hell with the Bible and God's word. I'm not disrespectful, but love has NOTHING to do with faith and religion.
no. everyone should be able to love who ever they want to love. I think God made guidelines to follow to make life simpler and easier, but life is anything but simple and easy. God also wanted sex to be after marriage but ALOT of ppl have broken that guideline. So why should gay marriage be any different. People do horrible things to gays and they care if some 40 year old is having sex before marriage. If gays are going to hell for being themselves then so is every other human being on this planet. How does a same sex couple effect a straight person? it's not their life.
P.S I come from a very baptis family but if God didn't want same sex couples then he wouldn't have made it possible for a man to fall for another man or woman to love another woman. Marriage shouldn't have to be this complicated. It's not religious or political. Marriage is the binding of two people who intend to b one for ever.
no -everbody is enitled to marriage
and i don't think it is going against gods wishes 1) im not religious 2) if there is a god and he is so great then he would love everyone and want everyone to be happy
No marriage should not only be between a man and a woman. There are many gay/lesbain couples who love each other just as much as male/female couples. They shouldn't be left out just because of their sexual orientation. BTW great question! As for the person who said Catholics are close minded, I find that offensive. I am a Catholic and go to church each week, however I do not agree with some of the church's teachings. However, I still do follow them even though I don't agree with them completely!
Yes. Because I believe we were created to be attracted to the opposite sex.gay/lesbian is a nasty lie(no one thinks that way naturally.) I think a lot of factors go into someone thinking that they are gay. but I wont go into them cause I might offend someone.
Yes, it should be, because that is what God wanted and for me personally that's just what i believe, it is part of my religion also. And i do NOT hate the person, i just hate the life style choice.

Edit: oh and i dont believe people are born gay, i believe it is influenced by the way they are raised and what they choose. Also i just because a person is gay, doesnt give people a right to be cruel to them though.
To me, it doesn't matter. Let people do what they want. I am heterosexual, and if people choose to have a homosexual relationship, that's their decision. Love is love.
Nope. Love is love.

It's not as if gay couples are going to go out and bomb buildings if we legalize it. They aren't harming anyone. There's WAY more important issues to worry about.

EDIT: I don't think they're going against gods words. Gay people are BORN gay. I don't believe anyone chooses to be gay. God wouldn't make them if he thought it was sinful. Source(s): NO ON PROP 8!
Yes.

EDIT: I only say yes, because civil partenerships are for same sex couples. I have no problem with them commiting to eachother, but it isn't marriage.
it depends, are you just talking about same sex marriage under the BIBLE?
if you are, then i think it should stay between a man and a woman, because that's just how the bible goes.

but if you mean LEGALLY, then i dont think it should matter. this country is supposed to separate church and state, and its stupid to make a law based on a religion.
It should be between two people in love.

Edit : About the God thing... If God didn't want people to be gay, he would not have given life to a gay person. People are born gay, they are not made. Who are we to judge if someone is gay or straight? God is the true Judge, and he will love and forgive his children for their sins.

This is my favourite picture of two gay guys in California, who weren't allowed to be married. Here's their response to married heterosexuals. Says it all, really.

I'm loving all the thumbs-downs by all those homophobes. Can't open your minds instead of being discriminate bigots? It's sad what this world is coming to.
Either ways
man woman
man to man
woman to woman

I mean there's no harm to the world if there's gay couples or lesbian couples.Sheesh .! :l

Edit:
love may come in different ways men to men woman to woman ,just cause they like another gender doesn't mean the have less rights!
Answers:    Heterosexual marriage should be between a man and a woman.

But homosexual marriage should be between a man and a man, or a woman and a woman.

It shouldn't be called marriage if it's the same sex getting married. It should be called a different name.

Just my opinion

EDIT: Love isn't based on marriage. If you love someone, you don't have to be married. You don't have to define your love for someone else just by marrying them.

EDIT: Just because someone is Catholic doesn't mean they are closed minded. Why don't you stop stereotyping every single person who has a religion they believe in? What is so wrong with that? No one is making you become one, so what does their religion have to do with you? You guys are making Catholics/Christians seem like they are monsters who want to kill everyone and make the world a horrible place.

That's mean, and in-sensitive.

And no, I don't believe people were born gay. Why? Because, you know those little kids in kindergarten who are saying "let's get married!" None of them are saying let's get married with the same gender. At least one of those kids in that class will eventually become gay and they are now in kindergarten marrying a girl/boy. Once they get older, they understand that they are attracted to the same sex or the opposite sex. They don't already know that when they are born.
I think that it doesn't matter whether you're straight, gay, lesbian or bisexual. If you want to get married then you can. BUt they shouldn't start saying Partnership. They should just call it what it is. Marriage!!
no, not at all. in fact, it says in the bible to love everyone equally. god would never ever want people prosecuted because of something that they have no control over. nobody would ever choose to be gay, because its a very hard and ridiculed lifestyle. i think god wants people to be happy, and live good lives, accepting everyone. if that means two guys or two girls are happy married together, i dont think god would mind at all. just my beliefs.

ps, i am straight, so my opinion isn't biased. it's just waht i think.
Here's what I believe.

I believe that same sex couples deserve the same RIGHTS as straight couples, HOWEVER, I don't believe the definition of marriage should change.
Yes, it should only be between man and women. If the Good Lord Above meant for us to be with the same sex, then He would have made Adam and Steve, not Adam and Eve. The bible says it is an abomination, and one who chooses to be with the same sex, could very well spend his/her eternal life in hell. Many gay people will say God loves everyone, and does not care, true enough God does love us all, but this does not mean we will go to heaven if we do not follow his rules, and being gay is a sin. It can be forgiven like most of the sins we as humans commit, however if you do not change the sin you are committing, then you will not be forgiven.
It's also just nasty.
No.
Marriage Is Something Two People Decide To Do, Taking Their Relationship Up A Step And Making A Commitment To Each Other.
Who Cares If It's Two Guys, Two Women, Man Woman ?
Your Statement Is So Old Fashioned.

Yes.

Marriage was created to be between a man and a woman. That's just what I believe.

I don't really care if gay people get married though, it's not my place to say what people can/can't do.
Marriage is between a man and a woman.

I have no problem with same-sex couples having the same rights in every other way as heterosexuals, though.
No, it should be between two people who love each other, whether they're of opposite genders or the same.

Though I'm an atheist, I don't know about marriage in a church, since that goes against the religion. But legal marriage? Definitely should be allowed.

Honestly, I don't see why God wouldn't want two people who love each other to be together, but whatever. That's what the religion says, sadly.

People should never be ashamed of being homosexual or bisexual, and it's sad that many people either reject themselves or are rejected by others for being attracted to the same gender. Love is love. I see gay couples the same way I see straight couples, and I think they should both have the same legal rights, though violating a religious law is also wrong. I want people of certain religions to accept people, no matter what their sexual preference or identity.
No! No! No NO! NO! No! No! No! NO!
NO ON PROP 8!! Its stupid to take away rights form people just because they're different. Its like, saying a mentally ill person can't go to school.
No. People didn't choose their orinetations, they were born that way. So why should you not be aloud to marry just because the way you were born to be. You get what I'm saying?

At least..that's my point of view about it.
No, it should be between two people who love eachother. Because isnt that what marraige is about? Joining two people who are in love?
Marriage should be only between a man and a woman.

There going against Gods words because God created Adam and Eve; not Adam and Steve Nor Eve and Madam. so that they can create mankind and they could pass it on but, NOO! There Gaayy!

Im Against Gay Marriage!
No.
I dont think its anybody's business to stop people from getting married if they truely love each other.

God made them that way for a reason.
